History

Child Vikaas International (CVI), grew out of a series of meetings in 1998 between Dr. Kali Pappu, a social worker from India, and us, a group of Indian professionals in the Los Angeles area.

Dr. Pappu, who is a doctor and community health specialist himself, wanted to increase awareness of issues of child nutrition, rehabilitation of street children, and health care for women in India, and was interested in mobilizing U.S. funds for these matters.

Motivated by these meetings, we decided to form an organization to support child development projects all over India. We decided to call ourselves Child Vikaas International. (Vikaas is a Sanskrit word that means development.)

We were incorporated in August 1998, and we obtained our 501(C)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS in January 1999. Contributions to us are fully tax-deductible under IRS laws.

Our finances are completely public and published on this website approximately every quarter.

Our Approach

As a matter of policy, we work only with those projects and organizations where we feel we can be in close touch with the activists and the organizations, and where we feel comfortable promoting their activities in the U.S. In all cases, we seek full financial disclosure and accountability from the organizations we support. We only fund organizations for which we have a high degree of comfort that our funds are being spent wisely and that they are indeed reaching the target audience.

Since our formation, we have been involved with ten projects in India. Eight of these ten projects are on-going.

Our finances are completely public and published on this website approximately every quarter.
